The Twin Cities answer to Tori Amos and her ilk, Jenny Dalton’s icy piano centered tunes balance baroque song structures with pop melodic instincts to fine effect on her sophomore album, Rusalka’s Umbrella, which sees its release tonight at the Ritz Theater. Anything but conventional, Dalton’s recruited local theater company Lamb Lays with Lion to perform along side her for the gig and will also be releasing a 100 page book, Daughters of the Dead Sea, in tandem with her album and featuring “journal entries, port-town poems, notes and lyrics.” It all makes a plain ‘ol CD release look pretty humdrum by comparison (7 p.m., $10, All Ages). - Metromix
