About the Latest Releases:
Jenny Dalton's new full-length concept album, Rusalka's Umbrella, is accompanied by her first book, Daughters of the Dead Sea. The works are based on the water element and are inspired by a collage of influences including Twin Peaks, the Morton Salt Girl, The Shipping News, ghosts, Memoirs of a Geisha, folktales, The Fall by Albert Camus, the 35W bridge collapse, Mermaids and more. A rusalka is a female water spirit in Slavic folklore. Though water takes on many symbolic meanings throughout the CD and book, the overarching theme is water as an element of change.
Rusalka's Umbrella
14-track concept album based on water symbolism written and produced by Jenny Dalton. Minneapolis guest musicians include members from Cloud Cult, Murzik, One for the Team, Askeleton, Ela, and more. Enhanced CD includes Daughters of the Dead Sea e-book.
100-page paperback book by Jenny Dalton including journal entries, port-town poems, notes and lyrics written during the creation and recording of Rusalka’s Umbrella. Included as an e-book on the CD, and will also be available on Amazon.com
"Jenny Dalton’s latest, Ruskalka’s Umbrella, is a soulful tale of the seas. Her style is similar to Tori Amos, Jane Siberry or even Enya. The songs focus on her haunting voice, with the backing music a blend of new age, rock, and jazz. A bit heavy but Dalton’s voice and lyrics make it worth a listen." - WRUV Burlington, Vt
I thought it was always interesting that kids bring treats for their class on their birthdays. Anyhoo, Here's my treat for the class on my birthday (which is the 8th). I wrote and recorded this song tentatively titled "Tuesday with Zooey." This was done roughly in my dining room, so it's a demo version, and you can have it. It will be "professionalized" for the album tho. Here is the mp3 (or click on the gift too).
I also made a video for it. The lyrics are down the page a bit.
Lyrics for "Tuesday with Zooey" Inspired by Franny & Zooey by J.D. Salinger
Fall descending on a Tuesday night Resurrecting a world in the shadows Pulled from my shelf, all bound in pages Copyright stamped nineteen fifty five
[In the upper east side in a kimono before her in overly golden rows the lovely women in furs and coats but mother, she don't even bother
They came to the world on a radio show and grew up to shatter the status quo Through an existential chip on their shoulder the world is bending on brother]
I am meeting Franny and Zooey the timely friends of our undoing St Seraphim of Sarov leading the plaintive pilgrims to the something
I'll finally toss it aside with indifferent spit in my eye The meager mediocrity is shunned in the shadows
Autumn landing on the tip of my shoe My kicks are treading the walks in my hood Jeans and sweaters must come from heaven and what awaits on page 59
